Camp Spann is named after Mike Spann, a CIA Officer and the first American killed during the invasion of Afghanistan. The Camp is located in the RSC North Sector near Masar-e Sharif Afghanistan. The Afghan Army encampment that is co-located to Camp Spann is Camp Shaheen and is home to the 209th Corps and the future home of the 209ths own Regional Military Training Center. Currently, initial entry training known as Basic Warrior Training is conducted at Camp Shaheen.

In the gravel at the base of the Flagpole at Camp Spann, only a few feet from the Mike Spann stone and the stones of a few fallen servicemenbers, lie the memorial stones of Chuck and Mike. Their contributions, their sacrifice and their spirit will forever be a part of the story of Camp Spann.
